Cloud (Pixel)
Public Art
Miami FL
2009 (Concept)

A proposal by Daniel Arsham/Snarkitecture for the entrance plaza area of the new Florida Marlins Ballpark, the Cloud (Pixel) is a sculpture with an origin in the familiar sunsets of Miami, Florida. As one looks west during a Miami sunset, the color spectrum becomes varied and intensified, a sky phenomena that the Cloud (Pixel) replicates in a grounded form. Situated in the public plaza on the west side of the stadium, the form is designed to capture, reflect and amplify the lighting effects of the evening sunset, changing dramatically as the sky darkens. As a permeable form, it frames views of the stadium and of other clouds in the sky through its openings and perforations, creating its own shadows and nuances as visitors circulate around the Cloud. After dusk, the form is lit from below to generate an underglow that darkens towards the top, as if it were a cloud suspended above a brightly lit city.
