The Best Bet

It may look like demolition (and, in a sense it is), but this crumbling foxhole is really a work of creation. The ongoing project, called Dig, is an art installation/human-scale ant farm housed inside Nolita’s Storefront for Art and Architecture (97 Kenmare St., nr. Centre St.; 212-431-5795). Chief hole-borer Dan Arsham of the design collective Snarkitecture is spending his afternoons excavating a network of tunnels and caverns into a 3,750-cubic-foot block of recyclable architectural foam. Anyone can tour the finished sculpture on April 23, but in the meantime, passerby can peer in and cheer on Arsham as he burrows away.
