Kartell Bourgie

2014
Fiberglass
29” x 27” x 37” (H x W x D)

For the 10th anniversary of their iconic Bourgie lamp, Kartell invited a select group of designers to re-interpret the fixture. Snarkitecture's re-interpretation explores the implications of both absence and permanence. A white fabric-like drape made of rigid fiberglass appears to be covering the distinguishable shape of the fixture. Playing on the expectations of the viewer, from one side the fabric conceals the referenced figure, while from the other side the fabric lifts to reveal a void where one anticipates the lamp to stand. The piece captures the gesture of a fabric being lifted from an absent figure, leaving the ghost-like object embodying the form of the Bourgie lamp.
